House of Salt was named Fiji's National SME of the Year at the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) National Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Awards 2025, where President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu praised entrepreneurs for driving economic growth, innovation and community development.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in Suva on July 24, the president described small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as the "social and economic pillars" of Fiji and the country's "engine room," highlighting their role in creating jobs, improving livelihoods and strengthening the national economy.
"In today's rapidly evolving global economy, innovation is no longer optional but a necessity," Lalabalavu said, adding that businesses embracing change are best positioned to compete.
He said innovation is often reflected in practical improvements that boost productivity, sustainability and market access, and stressed the need for strong partnerships among government, educational institutions, industry and development partners to support entrepreneurs.
The president also emphasized that knowledge, technology, skills and opportunities should be accessible to entrepreneurs regardless of their location, enabling more Fijians to transform business ideas into successful enterprises.
He urged successful businesses to mentor emerging entrepreneurs, saying business growth should create opportunities not only for owners but also for employees, suppliers and local communities.
Held under the theme "Ignite, Innovate and Inspire," the annual awards recognized outstanding SMEs across multiple sectors.
